Clean Up Kenjeran Beach 2003

Minister of Oceans and Fisheries of Indonesia has proclaimed Clean Up Beach and Oceans Movement on Kenjeran Beach Surabaya (September 21, 2003). More than 7000 people joined the activity that held by Ministerial of Oceans and Fisheries Indonesia, Surabaya Government, Tunas Hijau Club and Jawa Pos.

Clean up Kenjeran Beach started at 7.00am along 7 km of beach. The people collected rubbish from the beach and put it into rubbish bag.

Minister of Oceans and Fisheries of Indonesia stated that he was happy with the spirit of Surabaya people to clean up Kenjeran Beach. “At this moment, it’s hard to find the people who care with the environment. I’m proud with the people of Surabaya,” said Prof Rokhmin Dahuri Minister for Oceans and Fisheries in front of the volunteers.  Minister also asked another cities in Indonesia want to do what Surabaya did.

Minister also hoped that the Surabaya people spirit to keep clean Kenjeran Beach will be continue. “What we do now is just the beginning. We should continue,” said the minister.

After clean up finish, minister dialog with the volunteers on how we could increase our environmental quality. Then, the minister visited an environmental exhibition, drawing competition and recycling competition that held by Fellows Prince and Princess of Environment of Tunas Hijau Club.(*)
